"WHEN I WAS A CHILD, I USED TO GO FOR WALKS LATE AT NIGHT TO LOOK INSIDE HOUSES. FROM THE ROAD, I COULD SEE CHANDELIERS, HANGING LIGHTS ILLUMINATING LOUNGES. THERE, UNDER MY ASTONISHED EYES, OBJECTS CAME TO LIFE."
The lamps are ceramic, handmade from chamotte stoneware (containing grains of sand).The clay is fired between two and three times at temperatures of between 900 and 1400 degrees. During this process, the object becomes as solid as stone. It is through assembly, modelling, sculpting and the various firings that the object reveals itself. Clay is a material that is almost 'alive' because of its movements between drying and firing. Each piece is unique. The curves are irregular and imperfect, and the dimensions may vary slightly.
The lamps are signed and numbered and made to order within 6 to 12 weeks.
